Awareness of others

Triggers for behaviour

Dreadnought in partnership with Cornwall Council Disabled Children Short Beaks Grant is offering an exciting opportunity for children who have a diagnosis of ADHD / ADD and their Parents to engage in group work.

Splat Club groups will bring together a group of peers who are in a similar situation to explore relationships, friendships, communication, living in and making a positive contribution to, our society, build an awareness of others, their feelings and perspectives and begin to understand some of the triggers for their behaviour. We will be using group games, discussions, experiential learning and creativity to help young people develop their social, group and peer skills.

At a Splat Club group young people will be able to socialise and receive support to begin to understand that they are not the only ones in a similar situation and begin to have a greater understanding of what their situation means to them. This is an issue based group and young people who wish to participate must have the ability to engage with the programme work in a group environment.  In line with Dreadnought’s ethos and philosophy, all children and young people in the group will be unconditionally accepted and listened to and will have trained positive adults to whom they can talk to if they wish.

In addition, every six weeks there will be a session just for Parents / carers to come together for an overview of what their son / daughter has been learning and for guidance on how to positively reinforce this at home.  There will also be time to socialise or have 1-1 time with a worker.

A Splat Club group will be based at our Centre in Pool and on an outreach basis in St. Austell from October 2011.

There is no charge for  Splat Club but places are limited.
